A lot has been written lately about millennials – a generation distinct in its relationship to the internet and accelerated technology. Everything from their social patterns to their employment opportunities seems to be throwing culture for a loop. Now, new studies are finding that the very thing that seems to define millennials – their comfort and dependence on relatively new technologies – may not be entirely to their benefit. Of special concern are new behavior patterns in practice that have a huge impact on hearing. The revolution in portable devices has come with a whole range of unhealthy listening practices, and not enough education about the dangers of hearing loss. As millennials age, some studies have demonstrated a notable spike in significant hearing loss.
