The World Health Organization (WHO) handles some of the biggest human health concerns on the planet – including hearing loss. This March 3rd, WHO is organizing World Hearing Day to raise awareness of hearing loss as well as access to information and treatment. For 2019, World Hearing Day is highlighting a fundamental part of taking care of your hearing: getting a hearing test. The day’s theme “Check Your Hearing” emphasizes the key role hearing tests have in detecting, diagnosing, and treating hearing loss. Right now, over 5% of the global population experiences significant hearing loss – that’s over 465 million people worldwide, and that statistic is poised to increase. With industrialization and technology escalating, it is estimated that by 2050, 10% of all people on Earth will have hearing loss. In the U.S. alone, hearing loss is the 3rd most prevalent chronic disease and affects over 45 million people.
